Blog Entry #1 (12 June 2021)

On the following day, we started to make moves to record the program and formalize it in the form of a video and a report. I've distributed the work and the scripts needed to complete the report and the video.

Meanwhile, preparations of the certificates for the participants were designed and sent in to our lecturer so that it could be made official. Once that is done, we would be able to print the certificates and compile them alongside the prize money for the three categories and send it to the school for which they'll be able to receive and forward to the winners once the PKP in this country ends.

All the while, our group still remains on standby via the WhatsApp group just in case the students have any questions regarding the solution to their aquaponic problem. They've also been kind enough to send thanks and wishes of good luck to us;

Finally the video was edited by myself whilst the other group members wrote the report. The video in its finalized form was simply to summarize the program and again wish the students good luck and show our appreciation.

Blog Entry #3 (14 June 2021)

The report that we have written was to formalize the concepts, flow and outputs of the program and included the following;

  1. Project synopsis
  2. Issues in the community you want to address
  3. Project objectives
  4. Name and Location of Community engagement
  5. Number of participants from the community
  6. Detail of project implementation
  7. Explanation of how e-SULAM approach benefits the community
  8. Evidence of 32 hours (table)
  9. Pictures of program
  10. Project expenditure/finance report

Blog Entry #4 (15 June 2021)

Overall, we hoped that what we were able to learn ourselves during the process of preparation of the program, was not put to waste and so that the students were to be able to carry along the new found knowledge that they gained for themselves and for others. As an Engineering Student and a future engineer. I feel that the so called ease and output of work that we do for a community may not only be done through our physical end products but also through the meta-physical and intangible.

Teaching the students was both a fulfilling experience because it almost felt as though we were able to give back to the community that we once were in. The cycle of which we hope would continue and that we might be the root of inspiration.

Blog Entry #5: Final 'Submission' Day (20 June 2021)

Once everything is submitted solely for the purpose of completing the requirements of the GIG1005 course, I'm hoping that I'll be able to apply the knowledge learned from this program and subject to something else in the future and knowing what I know now. Also, be able to provide an improved execution of another version of the program in the future.

A huge thanks for Pn. Norsilawati and Dr. Norhafizan. Without them, this group would still be at square one.

REFLECTION THROUGH MY LENS ( Muhammad Irfan Harith KIG190511)

   THE START. At the start of the semester, honestly, I had a negative feeling towards this social engagement course. I felt that it was going to be a burden and hindrance towards my time and would clash with the other courses that I’m taking in the semester. From the late class sessions to the to the confusion in understanding the objective and ways to execute this course, it was really a rough start to the whole subject, for me at least, and it was hard for me to enjoy my time during this course. Luckily for me, I found the best group mates that made this course a breeze. THE CHALLENGE In my previous studies, I have had experienced organizing and taking part in a social engagement program. It was fairly simple and straight forward. Search for a place or community, decide on a community, contact the community, organize games and activities, give out prizes, help them clean and tidy the place up and you are done. This time around, the university requires us to incorpor...

The journey of the program (Muhamad Imran - 17203007/2)

  Muhamad Imran bin Abdul Aziz KIG190520 (17203007/2) BEFORE THE PROGRAM PREFACE From our social engagement class, we were supposed to form a group and fulfil the tasks handed to us through the group course work. We formed a group consisting of 8 members, all of whom study mechanical engineering and happen to be my batchmates. Initially, I only happen to know just a few of my group members, however the chemistry of the group gradually increased as we did some ice-breaking sessions via Google Meet. Within days of group formation, we conducted several online meetings to discuss about exciting & feasible projects that can be done. We ended up choosing to teach high schoolers around the ages of 14 & 15 about Physics and its applications. We contacted a variety of different public schools and eventually a Tahfiz school agreed with our proposal to teach their students. Despite preparing ourselves for this, the principal of the school backed down and the program had to be canc...
